Our goal is to become people who are experienced by others as good listeners.
This is important because our most important task as Christians is to love others like Jesus loves, and listening well is one of the most effective ways we have of loving people. Craig Springer wrote that “listening well…reminds people they are valued”*. Similarly, David Augsburger wrote that “being heard is so close to being loved that for the average person they are almost indistinguishable.”**
