During the Service

During the Service

10:00 am in the Walmer Theatre

Enter through the glass doors on Lowther Ave, walk to the end of the hall, turn left, and go up the stairs or take the elevator to the 2nd floor. The Theatre is on your right.

Our worship services are casual in format and dress. There is plenty of room to sit or stand or move about – we encourage you to do whatever you need to do to engage with God.

Preaching

is based on the Bible and is presented in a traditional style. Audio recordings of most sermons are posted on our website and can be downloaded or listened to online.

Songs

are scattered throughout the service; you are invited to sing along if you would like. Words are displayed on a screen. The music is recorded rather than live.

Prayer

is an important part of our weekly service. There is a Book of Thanksgiving and Concern on a stand at the east, front side of the room, near where you enter. You are invited to write your prayer items in the book and we will include them in our prayer time during the service. We also have people who pray throughout the week. If you would like to be added to our prayer list for a particular Sunday or for the week, please email our pastor. We are happy to include as many or as few details as you prefer.

Communion

(also sometimes called The Lord’s Supper) is practiced as a part of some worship services (usually the first Sunday of the month). It is a symbolic re-enactment of the last supper Jesus shared with his disciples immediately prior to his arrest, trial, crucifixion, and resurrection. You can read about those events here. During this rite, you will see bread and grape juice on a table, likely near the front of the worship space. The bread and juice symbolize Jesus’ death, point to his resurrection, and remind us that in his death Jesus defeated the power of sin and death over us. You are free to choose whether or not to participate in this rite; there is no expectation either way.

Giving

financially can be an act of worship and faithful discipleship. This is why churches often have an opportunity to give during their worship service. At Walmer, you will not be asked to give during our time of worship. We made this choice because we want everyone in attendance to know they are welcome and accepted regardless of whether or not they choose to support the church financially. If you would like to make a financial offering, there are envelopes on the table at the back of the room and a white box in which to put your offering. Additionally, there are other ways to financially support the ministry of the church, all of which are detailed here.

Lunch After the Service

Most Sundays everyone is invited to stay for lunch following the service. Lunch is usually something like soup or chili. There is also often a vegetarian option. Lunch is not professionally catered, but is made by a member of the congregation.
