The Community of Christ (Jan. 22 - Mar. 26/23)
The Sermon on the Mount in Matthew 5 – 7 is possibly the most famous of all Jesus’ teaching in the New Testament. Over the centuries it has most often been read as an idealized and impossible ethic required of Jesus’ followers. But what if, as theologian Stanley Hauerwas suggests, the sermon is instead meant to be read as a “constitution of a people?”* How does that affect what we do with the words? How does it affect our life together as the Community of Christ?
